Accepting a New Baby

Expecting a new addition to the family is an exciting time. Sometimes however, the child will see the new sibling as a rival and have trouble adapting to the change. Get your child thinking about the world from his/her younger sibling’s eyes by using questions  such as:

  1. “Look! She’s smiling when you are singing, do you think she enjoys your song?”
  2. “Why do you think baby is crying?”
  3. “Is she hungry?”

This is one way that you can have your child think about the baby as a person and develop empathy for him/her.
