“If children feel safe, they can take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings, and grow.” – Alfie Kohn

Who is Information Children?

The Canadian Society for Information Children is a non-profit organization and a registered charity, founded in 1979. We provide information, support and referrals to parents and others on most any matters related to the care and well-being of families with children 12 years and under. Our Parent Coach-Educators answer all Helpline calls; for areas outside of our area of expertise, we provide parents with referrals to other community organizations or resources related to the concern.

  • Responding to Whines

Young children often whine to get attention
from the parents. Sometimes it is not a
concious strategy on the part of child but rather
a learned behaviour from the parents. Usually
whinining occurs because the child is not getting
what they want right away. There are effective and
non-effective ways of getting the child to respond in
a more positive way. Get the tips here!

  • Reading

Reading can become a fun time to spend

  • Making Friends

Learning to form friendships may be a
challenge for some children, but making and
retaining relationships is an important skill to
have for developing social interaction and
    emotional independence.
