Family Day is coming up on Monday, February 19th. Many museums and community centres have put together events that are free or low cost.

Family Day at Burnaby Village Museum

Come and join in the fun! Celebrate South Asian culture through music, dance and art. Visitors of all ages can participate in an engaging, interactive dance workshop led by award-winning Bollywood dancer Karima Essa. Learn some Bollywood history, enjoy the music and add your own moves to the experience. Sets starting at 11:45am and 1:45pm. Join in the collaborative process of creating a community mural, featuring the artwork of South Asian artist Jag Nagra. Engage in this tactile experience using hand crafted, fairtrade, wooden printing blocks made in Jaipur , India. (11am – 3:45pm) Visitors wishing to ride the carousel can purchase a ticket ($2.65). Last carousel ride at 3:45pm. Due to construction, only the Carousel Pavilion building and surrounding plaza will be open for this event.

Family Day Toonie Skate at Bill Copeland Sports Centre

Bring your family for ice skating, face painting and crafts! 

Time: 9 am-1:30 pm

Age: All ages (3 children: 1 adult ratio)

Indigenous Cree Medicine Bag: Family Day Workshop at New Westminster Museum and Archives

Cree knowledge keeper and Spirit of the Children Society’s Youth Enhancement Program Manager, Ernie Cardinal, will share teachings of the medicine wheel and its main medicines such as sage, cedar, sweet grass, tobacco and willow fungus. Following these teachings Ernie will guide families in making a deer hide medicine bag to hold their own medicines to strengthen themselves and their communities.

Stay for demos by our Creative Tech Instructors that lets you see into the worlds of stop-motion animation and circuit making for their potential in creative projects.
